Tonic Time Again

Every year the season changes and your body must adapt to the new environmental stresses of fall and winter.  The major media channels along with orthodox medicine will be bombarding us with propaganda about taking flu shots to keep from getting this year’s designer bug.  Besides the facts that these concoctions are based on pure guess work as to which virus will be making the rounds this year, there has been some recent research that shows avoiding the annual bug may not be a good thing.

You see the immune system is much more complex than we ever knew.  Now we know that there are two parts to the immune system.  The short term reactionary side, you experience when you get a cold or flu, and the long term low grade inflammation seen in allergies, asthma, and rheumatoid arthritis.  It turns out avoiding short term effects of colds and flu seem to increase the likelihood that you will develop long term allergies instead.  So a better option is to power up your immune system so that it can handle the seasonal bugs.  The following recipe is a sure fire way to give your natural immune system a boost and adapt to the seasonal viruses with very few symptoms.  If you have made this before, you know how potent this stuff is.  One last note, as you will see the tonic needs vodka to extract all the essence from herbs.  If you don’t like alcohol, after it has set for 14 days, simple heat the tonic up till it starts boiling.  This will completely eliminate the alcohol from the finished tonic.

 

1 bulb garlic

1 large white onion

1 hand size chunk of fresh ginger

4 ounces of fresh Horse radish

6 fresh hot peppers

1 quart apple cider vinegar (or your favorite fancy vinegar)

1 quart 80 proof vodka

Separate the bulb of garlic (not just a clove), chop the onion, ginger root, hot peppers (the hotter the better), and fresh horseradish root into 1/2” parts and toss them into your blender of food processor.  You want to keep the pulp in the mixture.  Cover with a quart of 80 proof vodka and blend until there are no large chunks, approximately 2-3 minutes.  Then pour into a large glass container with a sealable lid.  Let this mixture stand for 14 days shaking every day.  Then strain off the majority of the pulp and add a quart of vinegar, more or less to taste.  Take one teaspoon twice a day to prevent illness or every hour if you are already sick.  This tonic will boost your immune system, improve digestion, clear your arteries and your lungs and open your sinuses all with no side effects!
