An awesome article on how to grow ginger in Missouri

To grow the plant in Zone 5 you will have to pay close attention to the frost schedule. The frost in Zone 5 typically ends at the beginning of May. Ginger plants need to be transplanted in the winter, so you must bring them indoors before the first frost in October.

Be Careful Shoveling Snow this Winter

This is one of the busiest times of year in a chiropractor’s office.  Sudden efforts to clear the drive from tons of snow can really aggravate back problems.

Here are some excerpts from a recent article at www.consumeraffairs.com

Aching back

According to the seventeen-year study, appearing in the January 2011 issue of the American Journal of Emergency Medicine, the most common injury diagnoses were soft tissue injuries (55 percent), lacerations (16 percent) and fractures (seven percent). The lower back was the most frequently injured region of the body (34 percent), followed by injuries to the arms and hands (16 percent), and head (15 percent). Acute musculoskeletal exertion (54 percent), slips or falls (20 percent) and being struck by a snow shovel (15 percent) were the most frequent mechanisms of snow shovel-related injuries.

Shoveling tips

The following are a few additional tips for preventing injuries when shoveling snow:

  • Warm up with light exercise before you start.
  • Make sure to pace yourself by taking frequent breaks for rest.
  • The best way to clear snow is by pushing it instead of lifting.
  • Ergonomically designed shovels are a great choice to reduce the need for bending and heavy lifting.
  • When possible, avoid large shoveling jobs by clearing snow several times throughout the day.
  • Remember to wear warm clothing, including a hat, gloves and slip-resistant, high-traction footwear.

Remember my three day rule, “If a pain persists into a third day or is very sharp in certain movements, it’s time to see the chiropractor.”

FDA Seeks Acetaminophen Limit in Prescription Drugs

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is seeking a 325-milligram acetaminophen limit in prescriptiondrugs, hoping to curtail the risks of liver damage in users, the federal agency said in a statement on Thursday.

Additionally, the FDA is also forcing drug makers to put liver toxicity warnings on prescription combination drugswith acetaminophen.

The FDA argues you do not have the right to choose what food you eat

Dr. Mercola discusses a recent Time magazine interview with FDA officials where they say Raw Milk should never be consumed by anyone and that people do not have the right to choose what foods they eat!

I don’t know how it could get more obvious that the Federal Government considers the people living in America to be it’s possession.  How much more of this can we take?

http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2010/12/15/the-war-over-raw-milk.aspx

aw milk enthusiasts and raw dairy suppliers began fighting back in early 2010, filing suit against the FDA, claiming that banning interstate sales is unconstitutional.

The rebuttal received from the FDA was shocking to say the least.

It contained the following outrageous statements, which make it very clear they believe you have no right to natural, unadulterated food:

“There is no absolute right to consume or feed children any particular food.”

“There is no ‘deeply rooted’ historical tradition of unfettered access to foods of all kinds.”

“Plaintiffs’ assertion of a ‘fundamental right to their own bodily and physical health, which includes what foods they do and do not choose to consume for themselves and their families’ is similarly unavailing because plaintiffs do not have a fundamental right to obtain any food they wish.”

The FDA’s brief goes on to state that “even if such a right did exist, it would not render the FDA’s regulations unconstitutional because prohibiting the interstate sale and distribution of unpasteurized milk promotes bodily and physical health.”

“There is no fundamental right to freedom of contract.”

With these assertions, the FDA essentially claims to have the authority to prohibit any food of their choosing, and make it a crime for you to seek it out.

This is simply unacceptable.”

Now available at the clinic

I have long been a fan of clean air, who isn’t.   I have finally found a high quality air purification machine that I am comfortable endorsing.  I am proud to introduce to you the GT3000 Air Purifier.

http://www.greentechenv.com/gt3000

Using four advanced technologies, the GT3000 helps to eliminate Odors, smoke, pollen, dust, bacteria, mold, pet dander, viruses, and much more. Noticeable pollution is eliminated in as little as 15 minutes, and the most difficult pollution in as few as 24 hours.

I will have one in use at the office later this week.  The 3000 means it can keep the air clean in a 3,000 sq ft space, which is adequate for most private homes around here.
