Dr. Drumright’s Pedigree

I have the great fortune of knowing my complete family history, here is a brief summary:

   WILLIAM2 DRUMRIGHT, b. 1748, Lunenburg, VA; d. Oct 1828, Mecklenburg, VA.

William Drumright was certainly an American patriot during the Revolutionary War.  The records show that he was appointed as an Ensign in the 2nd battalion of Mecklenburg county Militia October 13, 1777.  He was in the 6th Company commanded by Captain Samuel Marshall who lived near William Drumright.  On the 14 of June 1779, he was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant.  He was later promoted to Captain and made commander of his company.  With his company, he marched alone to Little York (Yorktown) where they joined General Washington’s forces.   In addition to Captain Drumright’s military service, it is recorded that he rendered numerous other services to the cause of his country.  (Found in Public Service Claim of Mecklenburg county)

  2. Thank you for reading the blog sis. The entire family history is well over 200 pages long. Just to keep it within a blog size post I limited the references to my direct paternal lineage. Notice my children are not listed.
If you would like to post more of this info, I can show you how to create your own blog for free and will forward all the documents to you. Just let me know if this is something you would like to do.

There is a book witten by Mrs Dowland named Drumright Family Tree. I have a copy of the book in PDF. It is missing a couple of pages and I have found some mistakes should is my birth date but it is close. If you woul like a copy send me a e-mail.

  8. Hey there! I’m a descendant of these Drumrights as well – through William Allen Drumright’s daughter, Josephine. I’ve been trying to find the origin of the Drumright name, and I don’t find any record of it in Europe. Is it Native American? Do we know which tribe or at which point the first European came into the family?

  9. So, we go back to James and Sarah, I know about mom, Elizabeth Mann. Who was the father of James and was he the immigrant or back another generation? Did our family come over with the Andrews and from which English port? Any thoughts? Paul Drumright

  10. This is the dead end. The first records of Drumright is in Virginia colony. They were civic leaders and had to come from somewhere. They must have changed their name on arriving.

    • Would like to get past James. I suspect the name was originally Celtic. Maybe Drummond, Scottish or Drumrsgh, Irish. It’s all a guess. We are all James kids, well almost all. Some started with William Drumright, Sr.
